Sustainable Rammed Earth Residence
Earth House – A Sustainable Rammed Earth Residence
Located amidst serene farmlands just 36 km from Vadodara, the Earth House is designed as a minimalist near net-zero residence that revives traditional sustainable building practices for contemporary living. The home is primarily constructed using rammed earth walls sourced largely from the site itself, creating a low-impact building that blends naturally with its surroundings. Passive design strategies such as north-oriented openings, thick earth walls, and inclined fenestrations help maintain comfortable indoor temperatures while maximizing natural light and ventilation. Surrounded by Miyawaki forests, mango orchards, and organic farming areas, the residence forms a self-sustaining ecosystem that produces its own food and energy through solar panels. Natural materials like random rubble masonry, bamboo, gabion stone screens, and kota stone interiors further reinforce the project’s ecological approach. The Earth House demonstrates how architecture can address environmental challenges while creating a comfortable, functional, and aesthetically grounded living environment.
