The Earth House by Art & Architecture Associates received international recognition as a Winner at the Asia Design Awards held in Singapore, celebrating innovative and sustainable design across architecture and the built environment.

Located in the rural landscape near Halol, Vadodara, the project explores the potential of rammed earth construction and climate-responsive architecture as a contemporary response to sustainable living. Designed as a near net-zero residence, the Earth House integrates passive environmental strategies, renewable energy generation, and natural materials to minimize its environmental impact.

The house uses thick rammed earth walls constructed from soil excavated directly from the site, creating a high thermal mass that helps maintain indoor temperatures significantly cooler than the outside tropical climate. This reduces reliance on mechanical cooling and improves overall energy efficiency.

The architecture is complemented by a sustainable landscape that includes native plantations, organic farming, mango orchards, and Miyawaki forest, creating a biodiverse environment while providing natural shading and cooling around the building.

Winning the Asia Design Awards highlights The Earth House as a strong example of sustainable residential architecture from India, demonstrating how traditional building techniques can be reinterpreted through contemporary design to address global environmental challenges.
